Counseling & Debtor Education Service Descriptions

  • Credit Counseling - New legislation has been passed that requires any consumer wishing to eliminate debts under Chapter 7 or 13 bankruptcy to complete a credit counseling or "Bankruptcy Certification" course from a United States Trustee approved nonprofit credit counseling agency. The bankruptcy certificate the consumer will receive at the conclusion of the credit counseling session is required in order to file a personal bankruptcy.
  • Debtor Education - Every consumer who files a personal bankruptcy after October 17, 2005 must also complete a U.S. Trustee-approved debt education course or a "Pre-Discharge Education" course prior the completion of the bankruptcy. The pre-discharge certificate the consumer will receive at the conclusion of this counseling session is required in order to receive a personal bankruptcy discharge.
